The Center for Teaching & Learning Excellence (CTLE) presents: the Annual TA Teaching Symposium
The Annual TA Teaching Symposium attracts an average of 300 TAs from all departments on campus. (TAs include graduate students involved in instruction as graders, teaching assistants, lab instructors, discussion leaders, instructors of record, etc.) The Symposium is designed to provide practical skills and knowledge for excellent teaching in higher education. A choice of seminars is provided on the first day allowing attendees to select just the sessions they need. A second day of “microteaching” is available to those who would like to be videotaped teaching a 10-minute lesson, with subsequent peer and expert review provided.

NEW: We now offer two different seminar tracks. The “Foundations” track provides new teaching assistants with basic skills and information they will need to help them become effective TAs. The “Extensions” track is designed for graduate students who already have some teaching experience and now are preparing to serve as the instructor of record, or have already taught their own courses and are looking to brush up on their teaching or learn a new approach. Information about specific topics will be available in early August.
The 2009 Annual TA Teaching Symposium will be held on Thursday, August 20, beginning at 8:30 am in the Orson Spencer Hall auditorium. Microteaching will be held on Friday, August 21, beginning at 9:00 am in the Sill Center.
